Arrochar Real Estate

Arrochar houses for sale are primarily one and two-family houses, coming in both detached and semi-detached variants.

Underlying the blend of styles, most homes in Arrochar give off an impression of stability and place, typical of New York's older, more established neighborhoods. Stone and red brick finishes, along with prominent quoins and low-hipped roofs contribute to this feeling.

Those hunting for some old-fashioned charm can spot beautiful examples of Queen Anne, Tudor revival, American Foursquare, and Prairie style homes in Arrochar.

Shingle and clapboard can be found on many character homes in the area, but Arrochar real estate also includes many buildings in more modern styles, with clean lines and stucco exteriors.

As for more recent additions, solar panels are putting in a strong showing, and pools are relatively common, even in many of the smaller backyards.

Overall, the high variation in housing types and styles means that prospective buyers will be able to find a home to suit any taste, at a price for any budget.

Explore the Arrochar Area

Arrochar is bordered by Dongan Hills and Old Town to the west, Concord and Shore Acres to the North, Fort Wadsworth to the east, and South Shore to the south.

Just beyond Arrochar's southern border lies Ocean Breeze Park and South Beach wetlands. Both are vibrant and lush greenspaces featuring miles of accessible trails. And just beyond those, residents can benefit from the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, and the Staten Island University Hospital.

Residents in Arrochar can also enjoy miles of quiet, sandy beaches along the south shore. Once home to bustling resort developments, the shorefront now hosts various parks, fields, sports facilities, and playgrounds.

Along Staten Island's eastern shore, just a short distance away, visitors can take in tree-lined paths dotted by historic forts and naval batteries.

Lily Pond Avenue connects residents directly to the Staten Island Expressway, the main artery connecting Staten Island to New Jersey and Long Island.

Arrochar Community Ammenities and Attractions

Residents looking for schools in Arrochar should consider Albert V. Maniscalco and Holy Rosary elementary schools, as well as Public School 39 and St. Joseph Hill Academy.

The Arrochar area is also served by a number of convenient bus routes, but given its proximity to the I-278, many residents opt to drive instead.

Arrochar boasts some of the best Italian restaurants in the city. So, if you're in town, make sure to check out one of these spots:

  • Nino's Restaurant
  • Basilio Inn
  • Bocelli
  • Italianissimo Restaurant
  • Cafe Luna

Arrochar History

The name "Arrochar" is derived from the town of Arrochar in Scotland, ancestral home of the Clan MacFarlane. When William Wallace MacFarland built his estate in Staten Island in the 1840s, he named it after the Scottish town. The neighborhood later adopted this name, and today MacFarland's house still stands on the grounds of St. Joseph Hill Academy.

The neighborhood was once also home to famous architect Henry H. Richardson, and the home he designed for himself can still be found at 45 McClean Avenue.

Many such historic homes still rest along Hylan Boulevard, and various businesses in the area attest to Arrochar's Italian-American heritage.
