After working on this transformative project for so many years, there is something special about each and every retail store opening. This one, however, has been the best to date.
We had the honor of opening Nordstrom Rack alongside BFC partners and Goldman Sachs yesterday, on the Fourth of July.
Whether you came by Boat or Train, Car or Bus, The Staten Island Ferry delivered tens of thousands to Empire Outlets to shop till they dropped and party at New York City’s hottest block party.
We, here at Casandra Properties, saw this shift to the experiential retail market many years ago. While so many others struggled to try and retain brand loyalty, we understood what was important was the experience. We live our lives today through our Social Media Platforms on our phones. Shoppers, and Millennials in particular, want to be seen, they want to share their experiences and their lives on their respective platform. The struggle wasn’t, isn’t, and never will be about brand loyalty- todays shoppers are too smart, they do their research and know what they want.
Let’s be honest, Landlords blew it over the past several decades. Markets became saturated and malls were being developed in a reactive way to meet perceived overages in demand. They were not being built to draw, captivate, capture, and retain the consumer. As the mall fads fell out of favor in our ever-changing world, landlords became stale, stagnant - unable or unwilling to respond and adjust to the quickly shifting chess board. So, the If you build it they will come mentality has long since passed. However, if you have a location that is dynamic, experiential, well thought out, strategically located, extremely well accessed, and a constantly programmed venue- they WILL come and they will come in record numbers.
